Re: engine color match?
Thanks for the suggestion! I couldn’t find anyone that could custom match high heat paint. In ended up going with an aluminum VHT engine enamel. Would have preferred stock color but I must admit the VHT looks nice. F6F5049D-5F0B-41F9-B3A9-5B9E1F51CB89.jpeg 52F850B0-5497-4ABE-9EC0-44BC26D389EE.jpeg

engine color match?
Hi All! Has anybody found a good match for the original engine paint? I have a 1990 zr550, but I think it was the same greyish color on most if not all zephyrs (until the zephyr x, which came with black engines)

Re: 1990 Zephyr 550 California emissions style gas tank
related question - looks like the left side vent on my CA 550 tank has hole in it somewhere inside the tank - fuel is spilling out the vent orifice. I thought having that vent open to atmosphere was important, but this thread leads me to believe I can just block it off. Daftrussel - is the gas cap y...

Re: airbox lid modification
Hi Zaddict, A slight change of topic ...... I see from your posts that you have the the Nitron twin shocks on your bike. Did you get the R1's or R3's? Fitted a set of R3's a few weeks back to see how they compared against the Wilbers I'd been running for the past few years. Have found them a bit tr...

Re: airbox lid modification
Thanks Freddy. I did miss the edits the first time. Good points. I was trying to understand why only one carb would be pulling in air at a time given that the pistons move up and down in pairs. This video helped -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1h9eU9YH5o I don't plan on messing with the plenum a...

Re: airbox lid modification
Wow, yeah, amazing what a small change can affect. I am going to wait until I can source a new lid to try the experiment, so I can just put the old one back if it's a disaster.

airbox lid modification
Looking at the airbox lid on my 550 I see the inlet holes are pretty tiny - maybe a square inch of opening on either side. I'm thinking about enlarging them, and maybe installing Thunder Products TPI valves for precise adjustment. I've got some mods that may benefit from the increased airflow, and t...

Re: Foot pegs
I just installed some adjustable footpegs from webike. It was a small adjustment (maybe 3/4" inch) but made a huge difference in comfort.

Re: Regulator/Rectifier Test
Good to know, thanks for the detailed write up. I’m not sure how sensitive lithium batteries really are to voltage changes. I’ve been running a Shorei fot several years with a stock rectefier and no probs so far.

That pink wire corresponds to the grey wire in the thread -
