Re: Identifying that rattle
Ok, so sorry for the delay in posting a progress update but the bikes been together for some time now all went well and it is running really good. I left the head off to install in the frame to give me more access room and make torquing the head nuts easier, I also wrapped the frame in thin carpet t...

Re: Identifying that rattle
Had a few knowledgeable mates look at the engine and the general thought is as its in such good fettle the metal fragments must be from a previous problem and the top end was replaced or repaired and not fully dismantled to remove the debris, so its getting a good clean out new primary chain, clutch...

Re: Identifying that rattle
So took it down to the crank and it all looks brand new, checked the cam chain between pin 1 and 21 I think and it was spot on so i'm leaving it in, cam lobes, crank journals, bores, all as new spec. Had all the gear shafts out good as new, I will be replacing the primary chain as it was near 30mm s...

Re: Identifying that rattle
Ok, got the engine out solo managed to do it with valve cover in situ but might consider removing the exhaust studs to reinstall. so far have only removed the valve cover and all seems good as you said the cam chain looks brand new. Its gonna be real interesting dismantling as I've got a bad rattle ...

Re: Identifying that rattle
Cheers Freddy, I take your point re one stage at a time with the secondary shaft rubbers but there is really a lot of metal particals and yes most of them seem blue (case hardened?) and if i get as far the crank then for around £200 I thought replacing both chains is a no brainer, as for completing ...

Re: Identifying that rattle
Ok so i received my rubber inserts for my clutch basket from good old US of A , fitted them and the noise is exactly the same, the old inserts had shrunk but not fell apart. So dropped the sump ready to fit the secondary shaft rubbers and found a LOT of metal particals in the oil, on the sump bottom...

Fuel gauge not working
Not that its a big deal but is there a common reason why my fuel gauge is not working, I'm getting the correct resistance from the sender but when i put a jumper across the gauge connector i get nothing at the gauge.

Re: Identifying that rattle
Freddy, I followed your instructions, rear wheel up fifth gear rotate by hand finger tight then back a touch, top end sounds sweet. would the clutch basket be adding to the rattle or is it all secondary shaft? And should it be ok to run as it is for 3 or 4 months without anything letting go.
