Re: 750 5 speed to 6 speed swap
All, Thanks for the replies. Yes, I do know that I can swap to a taller final drive ratio with the chain, I've done that in the past, and it does sort of work - at the expense of a higher first gear obviously. I guess I just want a six speed gearbox! Manual cars used to come with 4 speeds, now they'...

750 5 speed to 6 speed swap
I know that with the original Z650, the 6 speed gear clusters from a Z550 could be made to fit with a bit of machining work. Does anyone know if there's a similar modification (using bits from another 6 speed engine) available for the 750 Zephyr engine? The intention would be to reduce engine rpm's ...

Re: magnetic oil drain plug
I install magnetic drain plugs on pretty much any machinery I work on, if possible. If none are available, I'll bore a plain plug and press a nice neodymium magnet in.

Re: my zephyr
Old thread resurrection I know, but the bike is indeed lovely.
Thanks for the info on the forks - I believe that ZX9R USD's will also fit.
Where did the fuel tank and saddle (or saddle cover) come from? They both suit the bike perfectly.
Thanks,
Ian

Re: My Z1A look alike
Looking more closely, I think you're right. The paint job has done a great job of disguising the curve on the bottom of the fuel tank, which is what fooled me.
Thanks,
Ian

Re: Clutch arm - Zephyr 750
Just out of interest, has anyone seen / made a hydraulic clutch conversion? I've seen them on bikes with a pushrd through the clutch shaft, not quite sure how this "cam on the side" system could easily be replaced.

Re: My Z1A look alike
That looks beautiful, and it's exactly the reason that I'm going to look at a 1991 750 Zephyr later this week... A couple of questions; Is that a 750 that you based it on? How well did the tank fit the frame? Did the side panels (which I guess are also from a Z1 / Z900) fit easily, or did you need t...
