Re: Flashing Tail Light / No fuel gauge
Thanks, Guys. Yes, Freddy, my thoughts have been running on similar lines. Popped out to the garage for 5 minutes to fiddle last night and the right indicator mysteriously stops flashing... front hard on, rear off. Opened the offending unit and... ... absolutely full of rust and crap. Looks ...

Re: Flashing Tail Light / No fuel gauge
So, to answer my own question (‘cus clearly no other bugger is as interested as I am ;) ) I’ve been digging into the wiring diagram. The only thing that can cause the tail light issue that I can see is a floating earth at the back end. I’ll get the meter out tonight and try and trace it through to t...

Flashing Tail Light / No fuel gauge
I'm trying to put my 750 back together finally, but have a couple of minor electrical issues that aren't showstoppers but are wicking me off. First, my indicators are dimming my back light... you know what I mean, indicator lights flash on, tail light gets dimmer, indicators go off, tail light gets ...

Re: Stu's Zephyr 750 C1 Restomisation Project
It's OK in the photos, but up close the black bits just looked like a lash up, especially the headlight which was scratching off already. It wasn't where I wanted to go with the bike when I started, and didn't look one thing or the other with the chrome indicators (which I wanted to keep). The headl...

Re: Stu's Zephyr 750 C1 Restomisation Project
Thanks, guys... yes, very pleased I didn't sell it. It's starting to feel like a win not a defeat! I'm the one guilty of the black cases... I thought they'd look ok when I did them a year ago, but they really don't. I took all the covers off last night and stripped them back to the original finish, ...

Re: Stu's Zephyr 750 C1 Restomisation Project
Finally rolled out of the garage and given a bath:
I'm quite excited about this little bike. Just wheeling it around makes the GS seem all unwieldy and superfluous.

Re: Stu's Zephyr 750 C1 Restomisation Project
Bit more done yesterday: Brakes both filled and bled. Nice firm action on both. Both brake light switches fiddled; light now working from both ends. Carbs balanced, now has a nice even tickover. Sprocket cover and gear lever fitted. Seat lock gubbins found, cleaned and reassembled. All filthy bodywo...

Re: Stu's Zephyr 750 C1 Restomisation Project
So that last sentence got me thinking... what do I need to do before I push the button? The engine needs some oil in: Add 3.5l of Shell 10w-40. The motor needs plugs: New NGK's plus new plug caps to tidy it up and get good connections. Didn't need to, but put the new plug on the alternator and conne...

Re: Stu's Zephyr 750 C1 Restomisation Project
All moved on a bit further last night. The wiring loom is now fitted front to rear and all connected. I have a couple of grotty old connectors to fettle/replace by alternator/sprocket, but otherwise it's all good. One of the benefits of working on a bike that appears to have had very little maintena...

Re: Stu's Zephyr 750 C1 Restomisation Project
Fortunately, the master cylinder pushrods turned out to be fully interchangeable and swapped over easily. Brake pedal is now pointing in the right direction and all footrests present and correct. Noticed while swapping them that the ER6 has a smaller diameter piston than the Zephyr one. As I'm using...
