I've started going to work on mine. 25 miles each way, no traffic, good weather. Up until now it's been great. Normally I would manage once a week If I was lucky, but since lockdown I've been doing 3 or 4 every week. It is sharing duty now with a Triumph Legend.

Hello forum, former 550 zephyr and new zr1100 owner here.I also have an 84 550 gpz ive owned for years. My current zr1100 is from Ohio and been sitting for years. As most bikes like it,its rubber and carbs were devistated, including the header and exhaust. The bike is in Sanford florida now.I got it running very well now,all considered.I also have a royal enfield problem. All told,i own 3 royal enfields and 2 kawis. Thanks for tolerating my questions and queries,im finding it a slow process sourcing my replacement parts here in florida, but the bike is very fun and has 28,000 miles and is the most practical of all my bikes.cheers

I've been to Beddgelert in Snowdonia, 180 miles round trip. Nice weather good riding, but I am going to have to do something about that seat. Numb bum after an hour.

Put some heavier grade fork oil in to increase the rebound damping, going to have to now go for a decent test ride in Sydney's Winter to test it. It's currently blue sky's, not a cloud, and a chilly 18C. Might have to put a jumper on under the jacket.

Got to be careful though, being a Saturday lots of 'track marshals' will be around on the local popular motorcycle race track, which some people mistakenly believe is 'just' a scenic winding tourist road through a local National Park. Silly mistaken people.

Result: MUCH better.

Pulled the carbies off and gave them a complete clean. Bike had developed the odd splutter at low revs.

While the tank and everything was off to do the carbies, decided it was the best time to check the valve clearances. Virtually haven't moved since I rebuilt the engine some at a guess 30K kilometers ago.

Fitted new spark plugs and did the air cleaner.

Fitted the new ignition lock/switch assembly. That was a bit of a PITA. Not for being a difficult job as such, but because when I put it all back together, first the tail lights didn't work. Then the indicator dash lights would just faintly glow and not work, then the headlight bulb connector broke. Spent about 4 hours working out why. Taillight was due to connector on the new ignition switch not being a great alignment to the loom plug. Reason for the indicator warning light, still don't know why. After pulling the whole instrument panel apart they now work correctly so I'll just leave it as one of hose mysteries of life. Soldering on a new H4 headlight plug socket just meant a trip to the auto parts store for a new socket, no big deal.
