Considerably more, I think. I'm very pragmatic about this stuff... she's a lot more emotional. I'm over the shock now; it's just something that's happened and needs to get fixed. She's still very down.

Mind you, it's her brand new Fiat that's taken the brunt of it!

Have put an ad in Wanted as well, but let me know if you have a replacement set of 750 barrels I can clean up and bore to first oversize. Ta.

If anyone needs good standard size pistons I have a set.

In the meantime I've removed the broken bits of fin and black plastic from my engine, and while it's annoying and noticeable, it'll probably be a while before I change it.

More annoying is the fact that my tank paint is starting to show tiny signs of fuel attack from underneath... tank isn't sealed properly. I wasn't 100% happy with it when I did it, which is why it only got a home made aerosol paint job.

Lots to do, clutch, barrel and paint, but I'll probably get it road legal and play with it a while to see what else I want to change before I pull it apart again.

Had a note from the insurance assessor last night.

He's recommending a cash settlement "in lieu of repair" of £1628...

I would of tried for a bit more, they always offer the lowest first time

Was the subject of several emails between me and their "engineer". I gave an option with used part, but he used the prices for new parts and added in my labour at £20/hr... OK, then!

I'd have been relatively happy with the price of a used barrel, reboring and a few gaskets (which is precisely what it will cost me) so this exceeded my expectation by about 1200 quid...

In other news, insurance have also approved repairs to car and it's being fixed...

I've now cleaned up garage, put down the old carpet tiles I've had for ages and ordered myself some new shelving... she may have done me a favour by "sweeping out" the garage!

O that certainly was a shocking mess! Must have been a shock for both of you no matter how pragmatic you are. Good to see insurance is covering a lot. Not sure if you have better heating now in your garage but at least you have some work to do after summer
