cam chain tensioner

Post by Ivor »

hi , after getting the 1100 running after a few years lay up it gets quite top end rattley at high engine revs. was wondering if the cam chain tensioner is an automatic one , or you have to loosen off the bolts and give it a tap like the old Z900's ?

As standard, it's kawasakis' notorious automatic tensioner.. designed to replace the manual job on the KZ engine. It's so unreliable many folks swap them back to the old design. If you've got access to a machine shop, it's easy enough to make your own. There are people making them to sell as a side line. Plenty in breakers still, I should think.. I may be wrong but I believe the KZ tensioner is a straight swap for the ZR1100. It certainly is for the 550/750
