ZR550B Zephyr 1991 - No spark

Post by johnh »

I am rebuilding a 91 ZR550 and have virtually very little or no spark. I have replaced the following items - Plugs, Leads, Caps, Coils. none of which made any difference. Any help would be appreciated.

Does the battery have enough juice, are all the connectors clean, particularly any earths.

If still no spark you may have to break out the multimeter & fault find.

Have you put the coil low voltage wires on the correct way around? Can't say for sure if it makes a difference on the coils fitted to a Zephyr, but an automotive coil low voltage connectors are clearly marked 'positive/negative' (and hence the direction of current flow) and on these it makes a big difference.

New battery fitted, made no difference. Coil leads and wires fitted as per wiring diagram, it does not seem to matter which way round the wires go.

Have you checked that the pulsing coil and/or rotor on the right side of the engine are working?
