Many thanks Andy,

Brooks look like a good option.

Are you happy with how your rebuilt shocks are performing?

Cheers,

Kevin

Hi Kevin

Yes, before the rebuild the back was a little soft & would wallow over certain bumps. Now its firmer without being harsh.

The ride is a lot more comfortable than the shocks I had on there while the originals were away being rebuilt.

Only done 50 or so Miles so far but the performance is definitely better.

Heading into North Wales tomorrow so should get some miles on them, and see how they really perform.

First day and a closer look around the 1100. Overall condition appears good. Bike started second push of the button after at least a 4 week lay-up. No smoke, worrying rattles, leaks. Quite a weight difference to the 750 - mass is located higher, so, being a short-arse, stability requires a bit more care and concentration when moving it around! No grabrail for helping with the centrestand, but just pressing hard on the stand had it up ok. Noticed the handlebars are renthal replacements. OEM part number is 460031358. Compared to the 750 the renthal bars are narrower. An extra bit of leverage here might make for a more manoeverable machine - are the OEM handlebars same size as the 750?

No proper road test yet - problem with the V5, so have sent it back for amendment. Will use the delay to get basic servicing sorted, and see if I can track down any past history. The seller thoughtfully gave me a wallet with the names of the two previous owners inscribed - I'll be trying to contact them and see if they can provide any info.

happy days (so far!) ;)

thank you andye - they won't all be staying though; the workshop is now full, so at least two of them will be on their way. At the moment its the GS550 and the GT250B that will be on the shortlist, and I'll break them for spares if I can't get a fair price for them as projects. I'd like to get the GT250M properly sorted too - still working on this one - but if that doesn't pan out then that one will be going as well. Going to be quite a sell-off at some point, what with all the spares I've got that go with all three - might have to book a table at Kempton! ;)

At last ! - logbook returned and insurance sorted, so it was out for my first decent ride out on the 1100 today. Yep, that's a PROPER bike! :D

No problems other than a couple of bits which I will tweak to suit my own requirements - front brake lever pressure a bit on the soft side, might exchange the Givi mini-screen for a Puig one, a set of chrome engine protector bars and a chrome rack/carrier would be nice, and it definitely needs wider handlebars, so those Renthals will have to go.

Very happy with my purchase ! :D

making the most of the fine weather, plus the fact that I'm addicted to strawberry frappucinos :) . Getting more used to the 1100 now, even with the narrow bars. Its definitely a nicer/smoother ride than the 900a4, but then that's to be expected. Always thought there would only ever be one 'keeper' choice if I was forced to sell all my bikes bar one, but now I may have to rethink this option ...
