...So do I because I'm not doing it again!!!, but after waiting for a long wet and cold winter to finish so I could paint it....we are now in a heat wave here with 30 c+ temps!! crazy country this :) The good thing though is my shed is like an oven so the paint should be well cured as I can't obviously run it for a while yet, the bad thing though is it's too bloody hot to work in it  !!

And the engine is in and bolted up, wasn't too bad a job really only a bit of wrestling required to get it propped up and secured to the bench, that detachable lower frame rail sure helps things. This is one of the best parts of rebuilding a bike for me as it just starts looks like a bike again! , Anyway hope to crack on again soon when it cools down here....

I've sorted myself out a bench polisher, comprising of an old 6" bench grinder with mop attachments and mops, coarse and fine soap bars all bought at Kempton bike jumble for less than £50, bargain!. I bolted it to my black & decker workmate and it works ok......moves around a bit though, might need to bolt it to the floor!!

Still getting the hang of it but well impressed so far, even got to brush up on my painting skills! think I might be catching the polishing bug though!, I started with the left hand crank cover which I had a pair of , one brand new and one almost mint both in the factory finish and lacquer. I needed to strip and polish it to match the other polished parts so used the less good one in case I buggered it up! It came up great though so I will keep the new one as a spare but hope I never need it again :)

not great but it works well enough!

Looking good on the polishing.

My thoughts on that subject for what they are worth. Be careful not to go too overboard, especially no non engine parts. Personally I think things like front fork tubes and swing arms look too 'blingy' when polished. Not only that, from a practical perspective every bit of grease from the chain on a polished swing arm will stand out like the proverbial, and same deal with the inevitable stone chips on lower fork legs.

Too much and a bike to me looks like a 'disco ball' that belongs in a Las Vagas casino. Just the right amount as a standout contrast looks great. It's finding that right balance.

Thanks Swamps and Bigzeph :)

I'm quite enjoying the polishing ,I reckon it might even outshine your two very shiny zephs!!.....although it sounds like I better threadlock everything to protect it against swampy's spanners!!

These arrived in the post today
DSC_1187.JPG

They are made especially for the zephyr1100 by DNA filters and have a cut out at the top to clear the frame tube . I've seen some pod filters fitted that are squashed in and distorted due to the lack of space and don't look good. But I'm well pleased with these, they are very well made and supplied by a uk company ( BR special tuning ), will post some pics when I eventually fit them. I know a lot of people say bad things about pods, how you'll never get it to run right, jetting is a nightmare etc etc etc, but I'm gonna give them a go because they look so cool and nothing is not doable in my book :)
