Rubber bracket

I might have asked this before but am still none the wiser.This rubber bracket has score marks on it that match the chain exactly.I have looked all over the place and can't find where it goes,any ideas,pictures,cheers Gordon.(pic attached)

it's the upper Chaingurad on the Frame above the chain line - see pictures (i know - its dirty)
