I agree with hugohose. Those seals aren't really meant to be driven into the crankcase. They have a small thin lip that sits in a groove inside the case housing. I replaced mine after splitting the case. You are supposed to use some silicone sealant on and around the seals on installation. Whatever the previous owner did was goofed. You might check the pick up side. It may have the same issue. If you end up splitting the case, change both seals. Would be a good chance to see if there are any other problems I guess. One thing leads to another.

Yea agreed , the bike runs absolutely fabulous but I know it’s not right and it bugs me. We do have a large bearing company who sells all different types of seals and configuration of seals so once I get the new Kawasaki seal I may take it over there to see if I can get a wider seal that I can drive in from the outside that possibly has a metal exterior that would be press fit into the case other Nat I’m gonna have to split the cases which I really don’t want to but I have been down this road before I guess thank you

To me it sounds like you are about to wreck your engine. Crankshaft seals are quite specific and the only proper way to replace them is to split crankcase and install new OEM parts.

I think for me it’s just a fear of the unknown but once I get into it I’ll be fine. Going to pull the little ring tonight and see what the previous owner actually try to do I’ll keep posting thank you.

As a follow up . I realized there is a machined slot in the case almost out to the end of it . Decided that this would be a proper place for a retaining ring. Measured what width seal I would need and went to my local bearing distributor and put in a 25x36x8mmm seal followed by a 36mm retaining ring which I also got from the distributor. I have not ruled out splitting the cases but realized that for me it isn’t the only way. The seal is holding nicely and is dry and the retaining ring worked as it should keeping the seal from shifting out. The picture of the seal seal I pulled out is attached as well as my set up.
