Engine revving up to 8 grand and staying stuck there for a b

Hi I own a 1991 zephyr zr550. I just rebuilt the carb put all new stuff in it. I have the idle screws out at 4.5 turns out. I've been trying different combos with those screws but nothing. A lot of the reading I've been doing is telling me that it's the air to fuel mixture. Itll start and idle but as soon as I give it gas it bogs out, sometimes itll work itself through and rev up but other times itll die but start right back up. I sanded the spark plugs they aren't no more than 2 months old they were black, I dont know if that means anything. I hopei gave enough information on it. Dont hesitate to ask any questions! Please someone help I really want to go riding!! Also if anyone is interested it's for sale 1600 I put new brakes new throttle cables carb rebuild.

Overall, it sounds like at least the idle circuit is too rich....to begin . ....and 4.5 turns out sounds like about the limit. You should be around 2 1/2.... or at least start there.

Was this bike running well enough before?.......when you said 'rebuilt' carburator and put 'new stuff'. What exactly did you rebuild or change??

.................do these carbs have the factory jetting? ............... air box? Did you check the float level settings? Have you adjusted the idle knob? Did you synch carbs ?(even thought this would not prevent starting?

UPDATE: Just noticed this message is from this year, thought it was last year so probably a wrong reaction from my side...

Ok I took the carb back apart. And got the two jets out from the inside and they were clogged with liquid gasket that I used to stop the gas from leaking from the carb.. now that they are unclogged the bike runs like its brand new. New carb rebuild, new brakes, new throttle cables push and pull, when I went on a ride yesterday my back brakes just stopped working so I gotta check that out today. Other than that this problem was solved. Thanks everyone!!

Good to see you got this issue resolved, brakes seems to be the next one though
Brakes are the most important parts on the bike, better to take no risk and do a full maintenance on them...
