I've had the brake torque arm lug re-welded underneath the swingarm and here's how it looks with the new torque arm fitted

will have to polish up the swingarm and the wheels, engine cases etc etc, keep me busy till it's warm enough to start painting :)

Thought I better put an update up as it's been a while, progress is a bit slow as I've been sidetracked doing other peoples bikes and stuff but anyway I did manage to get some zephyr work done today, a bit of engine cleaning. I must admit i'll be glad when the engine is done and back in the frame as moving it around is a right ball ache!!

some more bits from pretech, you can see the amount the steering stem got bent!!!

nice clean engine

hopefully more updates soon :)

Hello,

I used some old Petrol with a dash of Thinners in it !! , it looks a lot better in the photo than it actually is , and to be fair there wasn't much of the original paint left on and after a soaking and scrub I blew it off with compressed air which removed what was left.
The front of the engine is in a pretty poor state from all the road crud thrown at it so I'm going to paint the whole thing a darker shade of silver to also help cover up some welding repairs to the crankcases (see pics earlier in this thread), then i'll have the side casings polished so should look good when done :)

cheers eddie

I've ground down the welds on the repaired crankcases and drilled and re-tapped the threads for the left engine cover, well pleased with my handy work
DSC_1080.JPG

Then after an age of engine preparation and masking it was finally time to paint it, I wanted a darker than standard shade of grey and went for Halfords high temp paint in metallic black.....

....what a disappointment it looked horrible, worse than the picture shows, it looked like grey primer with a rough very matt finish, I hated it!! . I was pretty pis*ed off with it but after loads more prep and masking again I re - finished it in high temp Aluminium....

Much better I think :D :D

Next job is to try and get it back in the frame, should be fun

Morning Eddie, I must say that is one hell of a good repair, very impressive :)
You must be well happy with it, getting it in the frame sounds a lot easier than getting it into your car so will be a doddle for you :-O
Best of luck...
