1100 bolts

Postby sheepheerder » 13 Jan 2020, 23:29

hi guys was wondering if anyone here knows if any of the bolts on the 1100 are cad plated. i want to re plate my bolts with zink before i start to put the bike back together the reason for me asking is i want to use vinegar to strip the old zink but i dont want to strip any cadmium plated bolts and i am having a hard time figuring out if there is any at all.I am assuming some are chrome but i wont strip them either. just wondering if anyone else had any insight on the matter.
thanks in advance.

thanks for the welcoming. i was a member awhile back but im not sure what happend. Yes i have it tore down to a million pieces painted the frame and a pile of other parts. just getting ready to put back together but all the hardware are oxidized and dont look good with freshly painted parts and im kinda on a budget so trying to save money where i can.Every thing on this bike is expensive and hard to get or cant get it here in canada without paying high shipping rates.

The old forum died, the software was out of date and all went with it :(
Best of luck with the restoration, sounds as if you have it under control so that's good :D

Hi Sheepheeder, I’ve google about cadmium plating and it was apparently banned in Japan in 1969. It was still used by a he aircraft industry but most countries have banned/controlled its use.

There is a company in the UK that specialise in restoring Z1’s, Z900’s, etc and on their site they only mention zinc and chrome plating.

Gods luck with the project.
