New (but not) to this forum!

Post by squeezyphil »

Hello fellow Zephyr owners!

Thought i'd introduce myself on here. I'm Phil, from Worthing in West Sussex and I have owned a 750 Zephyr in Candy Persimmon Red for the last 5 years. I was a member of the original forum, but has been so long since I last logged in, that I hadnt realised the forum was closed back in 2017 and hence why I have only just joined this forum today!

Unfortunately the reason for me joining is rather sad, and is because I am planning on selling my Zephyr 750. I figured one of the best places to list it would be on here for other Zephyr owners to see! It's not to say I won't own another Zephyr in the future. I love them!!

My Zephyr is currently stripped right down as I am cleaning her right up, everything is stripped, engine out, front end off, rear end off and am left with a bare frame. Everything is being cleaned! I rode her back in 2015 and she has sat in the garage all this time untouched. She got quite dirty and I can't bear to part with her like that, seeing as I bought her in such good condition.

I will be posting up on here an ad to get some interest although I am still working on her. Just thought that anyone interested might like to see the progress. I do plan on having her completed in a few weeks. I really need the space in my shed as I have other big projects that I need to start, hence the sell.

Bit of a low-down on the bike (I will post this all in the ad). She's a 1992 Kawasaki Zephyr 750 in Candy Persimmon Red. She has a genuine total of approx (can't remember off the top of my head) 8600 miles! Yep you read right, I bought her at around 4800 miles on the clock and have done around 4000 miles on her. I rode her for pretty much one year, then she has sat in my garage ever since. New bikes came in and took over and I feel guilty not having ridden her since. She has an interesting story. So the original owner bought her brand new back in 1992 with the aim of using it as a commuter bike. He rode the bike for around 2 years to and from work. This is where the majority of the 4800 miles came from. One day on the way to work, I believe he was in a close call incident with a lorry in which he nearly got driven over and because of that, he ended up dropping the bike (stationary) on its side. The bike suffered small damage, mainly the side fairings were broken, but a few engine cooling fins were also broken off in the drop. Thats all the damage. Because of this incident, he stopped riding and put the bike into storage where it stayed for 16 years! He unfortunately died during this time and so came the time when his wife sold the bike to the next owner who is the bloke that I bought it off. The guy i bought it off did a little bit of work to her to get her running, i think mainly just tyres, carb cleaning and servicing all the fluids. I believe he owned it for around 4-5 years before I bought it. In this time he basically covered no mileage on it, i think around 200 miles.
And so, came the time time when I bought her, January of 2015, she would see around 4000 miles covered that year! I loved every minute of it! But she very quickly became sidelined. I did intially strip her down a little as the carbs, other than being cleaned, had never been overhauled, so I knew that needed doing. I planned to do so much to her. I spent alot of money on new parts, alot of genuine parts, seals, rubbers etc.. and did quite a bit of work to her. But then it alled kind of stopped due to other projects.
To come to present day, the bike was never finished and so we come to now. I still have all these new parts. So she is getting them all ,and being totally cleaned and rebuilt. Types of work I have done to her, carbs overhauled (all new kits used), forks serviced with new seals and one new stanchion due to pitting, brake caliper overhauls (new seals), new aftermaret rear shock absorbers (still have old ones, but are shot), braided brake hoses front and back, new D.I.D chain and Jt sprockets, cam cover gasket (OEM) replaced and end half moon seals replaced (OEM). There's a lot more but it's starting to become a bit of a selling ad haha, which i will put all and more into the actual ad on here.
She's been spoilt!

Anyway, I hope this hasn't bored you, I'm sure it probably has for the majority of you. But this is the story of my Zephyr. She's great!

Thanks for reading, Phil (squeezyphil)

Hi Phil

Welcome back!

Sorry to hear you are selling your Zephyr, but it is an opportunity for someone else...

It would be good to see some pictures of the rebuild if you have any.

Cheers
Den
