Progress been a bit slow but done a bit of research and managed to identify and buy replacement seals for my rear shocks so they’re all refinished in gloss black powder and the gold I used for the calipers. Polished the aluminium bits and made some new damper selector knobs in brass because one of the plastic ones were cracked and damaged and now all ready for re-assembly and re- gassing.
Also both wheels now laced back up and new rear tyre now fitted but waiting for a new front inner tube cos I’d forgotten that I punctured it when I took the front tyre off

Why not convert the rims to tubeless, you'll never have that problem again. Many advantages. A flat tyre on the road becomes just a minor inconvenience rather than a major drama. A nail in the tyre isn't likely to cause an immediate deflation, may just loose pressure VERY slowly. Unspung weight is also considerably reduced, those tubes aren't light.DaveZ1 wrote:waiting for a new front inner tube cos I’d forgotten that I punctured it when I took the front tyre off
I'm assuming tubeless tyres are available for whatever rim size you have used.
Re: 1100 B1 Newby
Why research took a time? I thought I made part number of compatible seal head pretty clear in my article on Kayaba shocks repair. And article is hard to miss during search of information about shocks. I also glad that idea of brass knobs came handy.DaveZ1 wrote:Progress been a bit slow but done a bit of research and managed to identify and buy replacement seals for my rear shocks so they’re all refinished in gloss black powder and the gold I used for the calipers. Thank you Gazzz!!
You found me out! Your article on Kayaba shocks was very helpful and was the inspiration for the brass knobs.
I like your work very much and I will look at many more of your projects with interest.

Is there much involved in converting spoked wheels to tubeless?

Freddy posted about this on 27 March 2018, Section: Tyres, Suspension, etc, Post: Converting wire wheels to tubless, with information about an OutEx kit he used.
In the same thread Andyoz gave some information on a Bartubless kit he used.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Re: 1100 B1 Newby
Front inner tube finally turned up! ( long story) so after two falls and a submission front tyre fitted tonight.
Next up...... The lump! Complete engine gasket set ordered and genuine Kawasaki piston rings now on order which at £156 inc. postage from Japan is a bit of a leap of faith seeing as I don’t know for sure that it’s still on standard bores
But with only 27k miles clocked up should still be on standard pistons. I haven’t actually ridden the bike yet but when I first started her up after I bought her there was a hint of smoke from the left side which seemed to clear after I ultrasonically cleaned the carbs and set them up a bit better but if I’m pulling the motor down that far for a cosmetic makeover I thought I may as well hone the bores and fit new rings even though the hint of smoke was probably valve stem oil seal. We will see in due course.
