My Z1A look alike

I restored this bike in 2013 and turned it into a Z1A look alike just for fun, it came out pretty good I must say, I then sold it around a year later................. just last month I tracked it down to the same chap I had sold it to and managed to buy it back off him and now have it back in my garage getting it ready for an MOT. It has been standing for around 6 years and so needs a little TLC but still just 17,000 miles on the clock I know this will be a great runner once again. Hope you like the pictures.

Thanks guys, yes I was lucky to get it back, few bits left to get the MOT and then on the road again. I have it insured as a classic so nice and cheap just the road tax to buy............. :D

That looks beautiful, and it's exactly the reason that I'm going to look at a 1991 750 Zephyr later this week...

A couple of questions;
Is that a 750 that you based it on?
How well did the tank fit the frame?
Did the side panels (which I guess are also from a Z1 / Z900) fit easily, or did you need to make & line up new mounting holes?
That seat looks so much better than the stock all smooth one; is it an original Z1 saddle, or did you recover the base you had?

If yours is a 750, then you've made a really nice replica of a Z2: https://www.motorcycleclassics.com/clas ... z17jazhur/

Thanks,

Ian

hi marvo yes very nice the 750 always lends its self to a 900 look alike

Yes I agree, it is a very good Z1A look alike.

I believe the tank is a standard Zephyr tank and the side panels are definitely standard. I suspect the seat has been recovered.

Looking more closely, I think you're right. The paint job has done a great job of disguising the curve on the bottom of the fuel tank, which is what fooled me.

Thanks,

Ian
