for those who are interested, here is the picture of the magnetic oil-drain plug.
Was sceptical about it but it seems it works. I don't know if the oil goes to the filter after the drain-plug or before. Also the filings might be much finer and what we see is just the build up.
That is installed on my 550GT (it has 103 Mm so far)

Re: magnetic oil drain plug
That’s really interesting, I’ve just fitted one on mine but never used one before. Good to see it seems to help!
Re: magnetic oil drain plug
That's actually a lot of metal scrap, I wonder where it comes from
Thanks for sharing, guess I need to use one of those as well...

Re: magnetic oil drain plug
Have magnetic plug in cars and another newer motorcycle I own, and never seen any debris.
......If those are metal filing, I'd really be concernend.
I remember trying one on 750 and found it had to be real short, as the oil pump intake screen was very close to hole and magnet was interfering.

Re: magnetic oil drain plug
Sorry to say this but I've been using magnetic plugs for years and never seen anything like that on my cars/bike
Well this shows that they do work and they prevent that meatal from getting to the filter.

Re: magnetic oil drain plug
Its pretty common to use magnetic plugs in generators because they come from the factory without being run. You expect a little bit of build up on the plugs after break in, but nothing like that.
Re: magnetic oil drain plug
yes, I'm concerned. The filings are really fine...they have just grown along the field lines. Wonder thought what parts are made of magnetic material.hugojose wrote: ......If those are metal filing, I'd really be concernend.

Re: magnetic oil drain plug
I install magnetic drain plugs on pretty much any machinery I work on, if possible. If none are available, I'll bore a plain plug and press a nice neodymium magnet in.
Cheap insurance, they occasionally trap bits of ferrous metal floating around.
