Is the 91 Octane we buy in Australia ok for the 1991 1100 Zephyr? Thanks

The owners manual specifies 91 RON which is what is sold in Australia as "Regular Unleaded". DON'T under and circumstances use E10. It alters the AFR and makes it run leaner than what it the engine was designed around.

P.S. You won't get any more performance by using higher octane e.g. 95, and if anything may actually reduce performance (slower burn). It won't do any harm but your just wasting money.

Thanks cobber. I run my 69 Honda four on 91 and thougt it would be ok with the Kwaka as they are bothe 9:1 compression but wanted to make sure although I have a 71 Triumph same compression but pinks under 98 even when I retard timing. Cheers

If a 1971 Triumph (you don't say what model so I'll guess a Bonneville) at a compression ratio of 9:1 is pinking with 98 Ron fuel then I'd be looking for what is wrong. Are the spark plugs the correct heat range? Is there carbon build up in the heads? Is the timing correct? Is the auto advance (no idea if it uses points etc) working correctly e.g. weak springs. Something doesn't seem right.

I only even use 91 Ron in my 750 with 2 size overbore (so its somewhat more than standard compression ratio) and it runs flawlessly.
